Provisioning (and Purple) in Panama
As a lot of you know, cooking is never at the top of my to do list and going to the supermarket is even worse (this is what we have Woop for!). Having spent 20 years owning shops, many in shopping malls, the anchor supermarkets in them are normally places that I avoid! However, we are leaving this week for our trip to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands and then on to the Marquesas, lots of sailing and time at sea. We needed to do a shop to last us for about 4 weeks as we are not sure what will be available in the Galapagos.
So my most un-favourite job took place today but fortunately I was not alone! Ian, Jo, Sheryl and myself got a taxi to one of the biggest supermarkets in Panama armed with our 4 page shopping list. Ian, who has acted as a very competent barman since his arrival, took care of the bar provisioning and us three girls went about the groceries, fruit and vegetables. Three hours later, yes, three hours (I was losing the will to live) and we finally arrived at the check-out! What a mission!!! I’m pleased to say that we did find a helpful taxi driver on the return and some very kind gentlemen at the Marina who helped us wheel our very full marina trolleys down the steep ramp so the food didn’t all end up in the drink!(
There was a reward for me at the end though – with my penchant for purple, I found these gorgeous purple kitchen utensils which will match my kettle, toaster and saucepans beautifully 💜💜💜
